Sania Mirza, Indian Tennis Player and Icon inaugurated the highly anticipated Lokmanya Marathon 2025 on Sunday morning at Belagavi’s CPEd Ground.
The event witnessed more than 3000 participants from all the ages (young to old), from the districts of Karnataka including Belagavi, Bagalkot, Jamkhandi, Vijayapur, Hubli-Dharwad and the neighboring regions like North Karnataka, Mahar, Goa, Sawantwadi, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Ichalkaranji across the country. The marathon also attracted participants from abroad.
The Lokmanya Marathon 2025, themed around education, fitness, and social responsibility, which focuses on the importance of holistic development. In the event, she encouraged all the participants by offering them fitness insights and motivational words as per the theme.
Sania Mirza officially flagged off three race categories—10 km, 5 km, and 3 km marathons at 6:30 am at CPEd Ground in the presence of founder-president of Lokamanya Society, and Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee to support the event.
Addressing the participants on the event, she shared her gratitude and heartfelt and joy for the warm she received in Belagavi. “Belagavi has given me so much love and warmth. I look forward to returning and spending more time here,” she shared.
The marathon, organized to promote fitness and community spirit, highlighted Belagavi’s growing presence in hosting significant sporting events, drawing both local talent and international participation.
Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Commandant, Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, MLA Shashikala Jolle, the former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath, Lokamanya Trust chairman Kiran Thakur and others were present during the event.
Medals and prizes were given to all those who completed the run. Prizes were awarded to all those who won, said a release.
