Belagavi is set to open the second Mother’s Milk Bank of the state in order to meet the needs of the shortage of Mother’s milk for newborns. The new Mother’s Milk Bank will open in the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).
It’s an initiative by the government and the first Mother’s Milk Bank opened in Bengaluru, which is still operational.
The Belagavi Mother’s Milk Bank will be inaugurated in a couple of weeks to cater to the needs of newborns who do not get their mother’s milk.
According to the officials, the milk will be collected from healthy mothers which will be processed and then stored in the Milk Bank. This is only for those who are in need. Many pregnant women are unable to produce milk during the delivery time leading to the death of newborns.

The milk is given to babies whose mothers have passed away, babies without family, premature babies, malnutrition or sick babies, and who are in need.
