Exploring the Beauty of 20 Belagavi Parks : A Blend of Nature and Heritage.

Belagavi is a prominent historical region known for its rich culture and is considered as one of the most important district in the state of Karnataka. The region also has various parks for its visitors to explore and spend some quality time with their friends and families.

1. Sharqat Park:

Sharqat Park is also known as Sharquat Park. It is a public park located at the Queens Garden Road, Laxmi Tek, Camp, Belagavi, in the state of Karnataka, India.

2. Congress Well Park:

Congress Well Park is located in the Shivaji Colony of Tilakwadi, Belagavi, Karnataka. The park holds a significant historical importance in the district.

In December 1924, it served as the venue for the 39th session of the Indian National Congress, uniquely presided over by Mahatma Gandhi, which was the only session he has ever chaired. For the accommodation of the attendees, a well named “Pampa Sarovar,” later known as the “Congress Well,” was constructed at a cost of ₹4,370 and 3 annas. This well provided water to approximately 70,000 participants during the convention.

Over time, the well fell into disuse but was revitalized in 2004 as part of Belagavi’s initiative to restore its traditional water sources.  Today, the park features a museum with photographs from the 1924 session and a small library, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history of Belagavi. The park is also adorned with statues of wild animals, which adds charm to the park.

As of October 2024, Karnataka has been preparing grand centenary celebrations to commemorate the historic 1924 Belagavi Congress session. Under the “Gandhi Bharat” program, a variety of events are planned statewide, lasting until October 2025. These include photo exhibitions showcasing the Congress session and Gandhi’s achievements, the establishment of Gandhi study centres in universities, and the completion of Gandhi Bhavans in every district.

Congress Well Park not only offers a serene environment to the visitors, but it also offers a deep connection to a pivotal moment in India’s freedom struggle.

3. Shree Nagar Garden:

The garden features a variety of play equipment, making it a favoured picnic destination for families with their children’s. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Public Park is located in the Shahapur area of Belagavi, Karnataka.

The park is a prominent recreational space known for its lush greenery and well-maintained landscapes. The park offers various amenities, including playgrounds, walking trails, and open areas suitable for picnics and outdoor activities.

The gallery operates daily from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM, with a special light and music show at 6:45 PM. 5. Nath Pai Garden:

Nath Pai Garden is situated in Tilakwadi at Belagavi district. It is a 1.32-acre park that was renovated under the Smart City Project with an investment of around ₹92 lakhs. The redevelopment was completed in the year 2019. It was introduced with several features to enhance its appeal, including a gazebo, pergolas, a yoga deck, well-laid walkways, and a lush green lawn. The park also features native plant species, promoting local biodiversity. These improvements make Nath Pai Garden a popular spot for relaxation, exercise, and community activities, offering a serene environment for visitors to unwind and enjoy nature.

6. Hanuman Nagara Park:

Hanuman Nagar Park

Hanuman Nagar Park is located in Hanuman Nagar, Belagavi district at Karnataka state. It is a well-maintained public space which offers a variety of recreational amenities to the visitors.

The park was developed at a cost of ₹252 lakhs under the City Corporation fund, AMRUT City Project, and Park Development Project, the park features multiple play structures, including six Rainbow Climbers, eight Sea Saws, and Arch Swings, catering to children and families of the city.

7. Science Park:

Belagavi is home to a notable Science Park located in Mangalwar Peth, Tilakwadi, at Belagavi district in the state of Karnataka. This park offers interactive exhibits and installations designed to engage visitors with various scientific concepts, making it a popular destination for both educational trips and leisurely visits.

Additionally, a new open-air Science Park has been developed in front of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. Completed in December 2024 at a cost of ₹40 lakh, this park features 22 interactive models aimed at engaging children with science concepts. The initiative was undertaken by the workers of MGNREGA and has garnered significant attention for the educational value of the park.

8. Hulme Park:

Hulme Park

Hulme Park is located in Redi – Belagavi Road, Sindhi Colony at Sadashiv Nagar, Belagavi, Karnataka State India. It is a notable green space in the city.  The park has hosted events such as the ‘Sasya Sante‘ which was organized by the Horticulture Department with the aim of promoting kitchen and terrace gardening. 

Additionally, the park has been a venue for mango festivals, which offers a  natural ripened mangoes directly from farmers.  These events highlight the park’s role in community engagement and support for local agriculture.

9. Kanabargi Kere Park:

Kanabargi Kere Park is located in the Kanabargi locality of Belagavi, Karnataka. The park underwent significant development and was inaugurated in February 2021.

The park is a popular recreational spot for both residents and visitors. It features an amphitheater with a permanent stage and seating, e-toilets, dustbins, kiosks, flower beds, an open gym area, hexagonal and octagonal gazebos, and a walking path. As of February 2025, the park is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM.

10. Jagajeevana Rama Park:

11. Balekundari Memorial Garden:

Balekundri Memorial Garden, also known as Balekundari’s Memorial Garden, is located at VGC4+FWH, Visvesvaraya Nagar, Sadashiv Nagar, Belagavi, Karnataka state, India.

The garden is situated near the Balekundri Temple, dedicated to Shri Pant Maharaj Balekundri, a revered sage from the Shree Datta Sampradaya tradition. The temple is nestled amidst a serene garden of mango trees which offers a tranquil and mesmerizing environment for the visitors.

12. Bio Diversity Park:

Belagavi is home to a Biodiversity Park located near the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Campus, approximately 15 kilometres from the city centre along the Belagavi- Goa Highway. This park was inaugurated in the year 2017, which spans around 316 acres near Machche village on the Chorla Ghat road.

The park was developed under the ‘Nagara Vana Udyan’ project by the Government of India, with 80% of the funding from the Central Government and the remaining 20% from the State Government.

However, according to the reports from the year 2019, it indicated that the park was in a state of neglect due to a lack of funding, which affected its maintenance and development of the park.

These initiatives aim to enhance biodiversity conservation and provide educational opportunities for visitors in the Belagavi region.

13. Doordarshan Nagara Park:

Doordarshan Nagar Park is a public park located in the Doordarshan Nagar area of Belagavi in the state of Karnataka, with the postal code of 590019. The park is situated near Bauxite Road in the State Highway 41 in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sadashiv Nagar.

Military Animal Park is a public park situated at Belagavi Karnataka. It is also known as the Military Mahadev Zoo, situated within the Cantonment area of Belagavi, Karnataka.

The Park is a part of the Military Mahadeva Temple complex, which was inaugurated on January 24,1955. The Park offers a good and peaceful environment with a lush greenery which makes it a popular spot for families and nature enthusiasts. The visitors can visit the Park from 9 a.m. to 6 pm.
