A Novel Named Sadar Bazar By D.S. Chougale, To Be Released In Belagavi

A Novel named “SADAR BAZAAR” by DS Chougale, to be released in Belagavi.

An author named Balasaheb Lokapur stated that ” Novels help writers understand themselves better” in Belagavi on Saturday.

At Sapna Book House, Balasaheb Lokapur was speaking at the launch event of Sadar Bazaar, the debut novel by Translator and Theatre Personality Dada Saheb Chougale.

Professor Lokapur said that ” Most of our works, biographical or non-biographical, are attempts to explore our own inner personality. A Novel gives writers a wider canvas and a longer time to assess and understand themselves better. By trying to analyse incidents and interpret them better for the readers, novelists understand themselves better”. Professor Lokapur urged writers not to worry much about the opinions of professional critics because most of them tended to be influenced by Western concepts of surrealism or artificial imagery, that was alien to the Indian Literacy Heritage.

Professor Lokapur described Professor Chougale as a Polyglot and a scholar, who had ventured into Theatre, Film Acting, Painting, as well as various forms of writing. Professor Lokapur also stated that “In all this, we see the efforts of Professor Chougale, to make sense of the bilingual world around him and convey it to his readers and the viewers”.

“The Novel Sadar Bazaar does not follow on one focal point or theme, and can be described as a slice of life, which has a broader scope than a short story” said by Professor Lokapur.

Sadar Bazaar is a unique work that attempts to portray rural life in the arid North West of Karnataka, which borders Maharashtra. This novel is related to reality and it sticks to it and it does not try to romancize rural life. It looks at farming from the inside, which does not encourage outsiders for the adoption of an off-grid bohemian life, as some of the modern new-age novels try to do.

By addressing the generational gap, he has also tried to answer the questions for who do writers write the novels for: their generation for the next? He also uses the accent of Kannada-Marathi which is found on the Chikkodi-Nippani border, which is not a deliberate statement in the novel. The mixture of the languages does not seem to be artificial or forceful. He tried to make the reader feel the mixture of both pain and pleasure. However, it has its share of witty dialogues and wordplay. The title alludes to the flesh trade prevalent in the impoverished villages, but it does not treat the issue as the central issue.

A writer and a theatre personality, named Dilawar Ramadurg, said that the novel had grander ambitions than most of his contemporary works. The novel begins as the story of a small-town, but it aims to address life’s fundamental questions, which includes the meaning of life and also the purpose of living and the preaching of prophets and the religious practices. It shows how a newly started artist is forced to choose a living, where there is security and steady income, over the risky but lucrative vocation of a professional artist. But the theme, shifts from the city’s sex trade to a profound metaphysical experience for the characters who plays a major role.

He said that” I have tried to take the fantasy out rural life and give it a grounded feel. I have also tried to include stories from my childhood and set them in real places and settings. Critics may debate whether a novel should be fantastical or realistic novel. But a writer should not get lost in the debate.” You should put down in writing what comes to your mind, after some re-evaluation and re-evaluation”.

He added that his novel is about being a novel artist, who faces creative pressure to demonstrate his life experience through his art.” Using his story, I have tried to portray the interconnectedness of humanity.” said by Professor Chougale.

Ramadurg said that, “The artists travels from the real to the exotic and beyond and the reader accompanies the writer on his journey. An artist, who portrays the controversies he faces in his own mind, when faced with life choices, tries to find answers to various questions and which also helps the reader to explore himself in his life.”

Raghu HS, Branch Manager of Sapna Book House was present. Writers, namely, Nadeem Sanadi, Playwright Shirish Joshi and various others were present.
