A Man In Belagavi Struggles To Prove Himself Alive

A 62 year old man named Ganapati Khachu Kakatkar, in a resident of Savgaon village Belagavi suffered to prove himself alive for the past 16 months.

As per reports, this tragic and shocking incident began when Ganapati and his brothers applied for a succession certificate and filed a petition before the Fourth JMFC Court in Belagavi to claim rights over 6 acres and 23 guntas of land left behind by their late grandfather who was died on February 2, 1976.

Before his death, he transferred nine acres of land each to his three sons and kept six acres and 23 guntas for himself. The land was not later distributed among the sons. Few years later, Masanu’s three sons passed away and was later distributed to his eight grandsons, including Ganapati to claim the land.

Two years later, the grandsons sought to transfer the land but faced delays as the tahsildar’s office had failed to provide their grandfather’s death certificate. They approached a local court in Belagavi, which then ordered that the certificate will be issued.

Following this, the revenue inspector’s office in Hindalga, a computer operator mistakenly entered Ganapati’s Aadhaar number instead of his grandfather’s in the death certificate.

Ganapati became aware of the error on August 3, 2023 and took steps to resolve it but no severe corrective actions was taken place by the officials.

This error led to Ganapati being officially declared deceased and at the same time, Ganapati’s Aadhar number was locked, and his name was removed from the ration card which made him lost the access to his bank account and all the government benefits. He has also been deprived of essential benefits, including old-age pensions, food grains, crop-loss compensation, and assistance under the PM Kisan Fund.

On 6th January, Ganapati, along with his family members approached Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan to prove that he is alive and to highlight that no official actions took place for so long.

Mohammad Roshan promised him to sort out everything and solve the issue as soon as possible and directed the assistant commissioner to initiate action against the problem.
