The recent increase in the cases of Zika virus in Maharashtra, Belagavi district has been put on alert by the authorities. The cases of Zika virus are increasing in the state of Maharashtra which is why the authorities have alerted, especially the borders of Belagavi and Maharashtra. The state of Maharashtra is on alert after 12 Zika virus cases.
As per the doctors, it is hard to differentiate between a dengue case and a Zika virus case as the symptoms are very similar. Zika virus is more severe than dengue, especially among pregnant women.
In an interview, Dr. Mahesh Koni said that although the Zika virus is severe than dengue, the recovery rate of the Zika virus is faster as compared to dengue which makes dengue more dangerous than the Zika virus.
A state-level meeting has been held with the health minister Dinesh Gondu Rao where he issued some guidelines to the officials that must be followed for the prevention of the Zika virus.
District Health official, Mahesh Koni said, “As far as Belagavi district is concerned, no Zika or Nipah cases have been detected so far”.
The new Deputy Commissioner of Belagavi, Mohammad Roshan said, “I will talk with the health department officials. We will arrange for sending samples to the Pune laboratory for the detection of Zika cases. We will take it seriously, as a greater number of cases are being detected in neighboring Maharashtra”.
