What is Scheme No. 61 Belagavi Farmers Protesting For?

The Buda scheme no. 61 is a residential housing scheme launched in Kanbargi, Belagavi with the aim to build houses in Kanbargi, Belagavi. It is a long-delayed project that was proposed a decade ago but was unable to be implemented due to many legal issues with land acquisition.

The Belgaum Urban Development Authority (BUDA) has again started implementing Scheme No. 61 as it has proposed a land-sharing model of a 50:50 ratio with farmers which is already accepted by most of the farmers.

What is the BUDA House Scheme No. 61?

The BUDA House Scheme No. 61 is a project by BUDA to develop residential flats for people. This came after conducting a survey among the people to know if they would be interested in a structured residential house and flats. The results were positive and people showed interest in the scheme.

This started almost 11 years back but as it required acquiring lands from farmers, the scheme got delayed as the farmers filed a case in court. Now BUDA has come up with a new scheme which is a land-sharing model with the farmers.

How Much Land Required in the BUDA Scheme No. 61?

As per the reports, the housing scheme will be developed on 161 acres of land at Kanbargi. As per the statement of Shakeel Mulla, BUDA Commissioner, “Only 29 acres of the total project is under litigation as the farmers have approached the court. However, of this, farmers who own 12 acres, have already given their consent. Thus, we have started implementing the project.”

How Much Amount Sanctioned for the Housing Scheme No. 61?

The cabinet chaired by CM Siddaramaiah has already sanctioned ₹137.70 crores to BUDA for the development of the housing layout at the Kanbargi, Belagavi. Earlier the amount was ₹127.70 based on the uniform schedule in 2023-24.

When Will the Scheme No. 61 Start?

The development has already started in the undisputed land. There is still land of 29 acres which is under dispute as the farmers have filed a case in the court which is still ongoing.

As per the latest information, farmers want the compensation amount to be decided first and then the development should start. The total land on which the project will be implemented is 161 acres, out of which 132 acres are undisputed and the development work has already started on the land.
