Do not worry, this is what I’m here for, being a native of Belgaum, I have listed down the top 5 things to do in Belgaum and the activities you can do in Belgaum if you are feeling bored or if you are visiting Belgaum as a tourist.
I’m Yashraj, have been living in the city for the last 26 years and I know in and out of the city, and here is my best pick of things to do in Belgaum.
Things To Do in Belgaum (Belagavi)
Honestly, apart from the places that you can visit and tourist attractions in Belgaum, there aren’t many things you can do here as activities, but still, I have listed down the best of the best to enjoy your day. So, I have divided the list into 5 parts basically:
- Taste the Typical Street Food
- Trek
- Resorts
- Explore Spirituality
- Visit Tourist Places
1. Taste the Typical Street Food
Being a foodie, this is the first thing I will put on my list if I’m visiting any place, the food must be food, and let me tell you the food of Belgaum is actually really good, you’ll get the best authentic South Indian cuisines in this city.
There are some restaurants that are worth visiting, every cuisine, you name it, veg, nonveg, sweets, north Indian, south Indian, continental, seafood, etc, all are available. But I would say, you can get these dishes everywhere, you must try the local food on the street.
The most famous dishes of Belgaum include Kunda, which is a traditional sweet, and Belgaum also known as Kunda Nagari due to this sweet. Apart from this the other famous dishes worth tasting are Karadant, which is a local sweet dish, Katchi Dabeli, Alepak, Mandige, and Sweet corn dosa.
2. Trekking
For people who love to explore places, trekking is one of the best things to do in Belgaum. There are some good places that you can explore and trek. Maybe you are forgetting that Belgaum city lies on the foothills of the Western Ghats and there are some good spots you can trek.
If you are visiting the city, this is a must thing to do, also, I know there are many people in the town who do not know about his trekking spot. Some of the best trekking places in Belgaum that I like to visit frequently are:
- Kourigudda Viewpoint
- Tilari Waterfalls
- Chikale Waterfall
- Yogi Kolla Trek
These are my favorite trekking points in Belgaum, if you have some time, you must visit Yogi Kolla, if not, then you can visit the other three treks.
3. Resorts
If you do not know, there are some very good water parks and resorts in Belgaum that you can visit. Belgaum is not a big city but is voted as the 6th most liveable city in Karnataka and the 99th best city to live in India, which is very good. But why is this so? because the people are good, lively, and happy due to the scenic beauty and rich culture.
And apart from the natural waterfalls, there are some good, water resorts in Belgaum that are worth visiting: some of the best water parks in Belgaum (Belagavi) are:
- Yashneesh Fun World
- Karanji Water Park
- Hanjanatti Earthen Bund
- Haal Hall
- Harugeri Kere
These are my favorite places during summer to visit and beat the heat.
4. Explore Spirituality
Let me tell you, my city, Belgaum is also known for its spirituality. There are a lot of Temples which are ancient and hold meaning to it. You’ll feel some different vibrations going to those Temples. The city of Belgaum is ruled by many rulers, starting from the Ratta Dynasty to the Mughals to the British and that’s why the city is rich in different cultures.
You’ll see the Temples of Lord Shiva, Jain temples, and Mosques. Even if you are in any part of the country, there are some prominent spiritual sites that are worth visiting.
I would request you to visit Kamal Basti, which is the Jain Temple, built by the Ratta Dynasty, then you can visit the Military Mahadev which is a prime attraction in the city and is one of the oldest Temples in Belgaum. The Temple has a lot of Lord Shiva idols and is visited by many locals and tourists during the day. Apart from this, you can also visit Shree Ramkrishna Mission Ashram for spiritual peace.
5. Visit Tourist Places
This is the last on the list of best things to do in Belgaum, but not the least. The city is too beautiful to be captured in a day, and you can only experience this yourself not by just seeing the photos.
Belgaum City is scenic and has really nice tourist places to visit such as Gokak Falls, Yellur Fort, Baba Falls, Belgaum Fort, Rakaskop Dam, etc. If you can travel for a few kilometers from Belgaum, you can see even better places and explore new things.
The places I have mentioned are just a few of the best, there are many other places in Belgaum to visit and that is the reason people come from different places to spend some time in the beauty of nature. These places give a different vibe and feel that can’t be expressed in words.
To Wrap Up
These are my top 5 best things to do in Belgaum (Belagavi), there are some other things as well, like exploring the nightlife, going to theatres, boating on the lake, etc but those I listed above are my personal favorites and must things to do in Belgaum.
