The famous Sri Mangai Devi Yatra will be held on 28 June at Vadgaon which was started some 40-50 years back by the people of Vadgaon. A lot of devotees join the yatra and take the blessings of Mangai Devi.
It’s a complete fair with vendors, and shops, selling toys, balloons, delicacies, etc.
A notable ritual that people follow is, that the people of the village sacrifice animals like goats, sheep, and chickens as offerings on the Temple premises. Every year a large number of animals are being sacrificed.
According to the people of Vadgaon, there was a drought and disease that spread on the Vadgaon city some 50 years back. People prayed to Mangai Devi for the prosperity of the city and to overcome the difficult situation.
Since then, the Sri Mangai Devi Yatra has been celebrated in the city and people of the village and nearby places come to take the blessing of Devi Mangai.
Ban on Animal Sacrifice in Sri Mangai Devi Yatra This Year
This year, the Sri Mangai Devi Yatra is going to be held on Friday, 28 June. The District Collector, Nitesh Patil has issued an order that there will be no sacrifice of animals this year. There is a complete ban on sacrificing animals.
The president of Vishwaprani Welfare Board, Sri Dayanand Swami Manali, asked DC Nitesh Patil and City Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbaning, to maintain law and order and prohibit the sacrifice of animals in the village on the Yatra day.
According to Sri Dayanand Swami, a large number of animals are sacrificed on the temple premises and nearby areas which must be stopped. The same situation was in Sri Malekarni Temple in Uchgaon, a large number of animals used to get sacrificed earlier and now there is a strict ban, the same should happen in Vadgaon.
Sri Dayanand Swami quoted the Karnataka Animal Sacrifice Prevention Act 1959 and Rules 1963 in the case.
