Meters in Autorickshaws Compulsary in Belgaum After Ganeshotsav Festival

“This should have been implemented earlier,” said ADGP Alok Kumar, on autorickshaws not using meters in Belgaum. Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar directed the use of meters in autorickshaws after the Ganeshotsav festival.

In a recent press conference, ADGP Alok Kumar highlighted that Belagavi registers the highest number of road accidents after Bengaluru. He suggested rules must be followed from now on as a preventive measure in the city.

The Belagavi Police Commissionerate was established in 2014 and still, the rule is not followed by the autorickshaw drivers. He stated, “This should have been implemented earlier, but there has been a delay. Instructions have now been given to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, the Police Commissioner, and the Regional Transport Officer to address this issue. Officials have assured that rickshaw fare collection by meter will commence, but they have requested a deadline of twenty days to implement this. Meter enforcement will be initiated after Ganeshotsav. Unmetered rickshaw fares are burdening the common man, and arbitrary tariffs are being levied”.

ADGP Kumar made it very clear that the use of meters in autorickshaw to monitor fares will be compulsory after the Ganesh festival and those who won’t follow the rules will be fined.

Not just meters, but other rules must be followed to prevent road accidents in Belgaum. Strict actions will be taken against people riding motorcycles without helmets, drunk driving, driving without a license, and other important documents, etc.

The accidents in Belgaum have increased significantly in the past few months and it is very important to take preventive actions to safeguard the general public.
