Balasaheb Patil was one of the pioneering industrialists in North Karnataka who died in Belagavi on Thursday at the age of 93.

Balasaheb T. Patil was a visionary industrialist from North Karnataka, celebrated for his pioneering contributions to India’s civil engineering and infrastructure sectors. With a career spanning several decades, he played a vital role in transforming the regional industrial landscape through innovation, leadership, and commitment to excellence.

He was the visionary founder of the Belagavi-based B.T. Patil and Sons Group (Patsons), a renowned industrial and business conglomerate that earned national recognition for its exceptional engineering expertise, innovation, and commitment to quality.

Under his dynamic leadership, Patsons grew from a regional enterprise into a highly respected organization with diverse operations across various sectors, including civil construction, infrastructure development, and industrial manufacturing. A respected community leader, Patil also served as Chairman of the Mahaveer Cooperative Bank for over 25 years and was a guiding figure within the Jain community, known for his integrity, compassion, and vision for inclusive growth.

Infrastructure Development	He played a pivotal role through the B.T. Patil Group in executing some of India’s most challenging infrastructure projects, specializing in tunneling, dam construction, and hydro-power.
Konkan Railway Tunnels	Successfully completed over 65 kilometers of tunnels, including the 3.07 km Tike Tunnel, noted for precision engineering, technical discipline, and environmental foresight.
Diversification	Led the Group’s expansion into automation, structural engineering, and IT services, ensuring long-term resilience and generating employment opportunities.
Education and Philanthropy	Founded the B.T. Patil & Sons Polytechnic in Belagavi, providing technical education and career pathways for aspiring engineers. Contributed generously to social welfare initiatives, including a significant donation to the PM CARES Fund during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community Leadership	Served as Chairman of the Mahaveer Cooperative Bank for over 25 years. A respected leader in the Jain community, known for integrity, vision, and dedication to social development.

His Last Days

Balasaheb T. Patil passed away in October 2025 at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, vision, and nation-building that continues to inspire entrepreneurs and engineers across the region.

Last year, Mr. Patil took the Belagavi City Corporation and Belagavi Smart City Corporation to court against their act of taking over his land for road construction without land acquisition and not following the due process of law.

The High Court of Karnataka in Dharwad ruled against the State government and awarded damages to Mr. Patil. The city corporation later decided to close the road and return the land to the petitioner.

He is survived by his wife, sons Sachin and Tushar, daughter, brother Prabhakar Patil, sister Shalini and several other relatives and friends.
