The cases of dengue are increasing in the monsoon season in Belagavi district. As per a report from the Health Department in Belagavi, two people died due to dengue, and 70 people have been diagnosed with dengue in the last month.
As a precaution, the health department took blood samples from 1500 people in the Belagavi district, and out of them 170 people showed symptoms of dengue, 250 people showed the symptoms of Chikungunya and out of 1500 people, 70 are confirmed cases of dengue.
These cases have mostly been observed in Khanapur, Ramdurg, and Bailhongal but the department has found cases in all the areas of Belagavi district.
The recent death of a 28-year-old boy, Prasad Muchchandikar, on 29 June due to dengue in the district was a shock to the residents and people are now very afraid.
Precautionary Measures to Avoid Dengue
The Health Department in Belagavi has appealed to take precautionary measures to prevent dengue The department suggested:
- do not let water collect nearby
- flowerpots, and bird baths, should be checked regularly
- clogged gutters should be checked
- water collects on the back or at the bottom of refrigerators should be regularly checked
- the lid of the water tank should be properly closed
How Can You Save Yourself from Mosquito Bite?
You can take a few steps, especially during monsoon to avoid mosquito contact:
- use mosquito repellent
- wear long-sleeved shirt
- long pants and bottoms
- socks and shoes
- minimize skin exposure
Even if you have a slight doubt about dengue, chikungunya, or malaria, seek a doctor on an immediate basis at least during the monsoon.
Dengue Cases Previous Year Vs This Year
According to district health officer Dr. Mahesh Koni, the cases of dengue in the district this year have increased by 25% as compared to the previous year. He added,” There is no specific treatment for dengue fever but depending on the symptoms, treatment is being given in hospitals in areas where cases are increasing. Precautionary measures are being taken and awareness is being created for disease control.”
